Inspiration for design #1
This clothing collection is inspired by William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights Dream. I chose Titania, the beautiful queen of the fairies, as my character to design. As I read through the play, I noticed the theme of magic and the supernatural element of the mythic, fairy world as a thread that runs throughout Midsummer Nights Dream. I began explore the possibilities of the play under a modern influence. A Midsummer Nights Dream in our modern society of strains and stress, I thought, would then be a scenario under the influence of drugs and psychedelic remedies. I chose magic mushrooms or psilocybin mushrooms as the drug that induces the hallucinations, for the play is takes place in a trip into the forest. The silhouettes of this collection extends beyond the boundaries of the body, referencing the fascinating shapes and colors of mushrooms, and its hallucinogenic effects, using moving or rippling surfaces, and trailing objects as motifs of the designs.
